Quarterlife: My Episode on the goop Podcast
I’m very happy to share my interview with Elise Loehnen on the goop Podcast, topic: the Quarterlife years.
We covered a lot of ground! We talked about the importance of time and space, the roots of suffering in quarterlife, the definition of quarterlife, the necessity of culture shifts…. and so much more.
A few quick outtakes:
“It seems as though adulthood really has been synonymous with stability for a very long time. If you go back into mythology talking about coming of age, you go back into anthropology, you go back to other cultures that handle this differently, it’s different. But when you get into patriarchal systems or certain economic systems that are handling adulthood as a fixed situation, it’s about ‘you fulfill your gender role, you fulfill your gender role, and those roles are about stability… and fundamentally, the goal is that you never have an inner life that suggests that you want more. … It turns out it was always a lie. We all have inner lives. We’re all looking for meaning.”
“I argue that the quarterlife crisis has been happening throughout history… In my mind, the people who were having quarterlife crises historically were artists, or activists… they weren’t considered adults, they were just considered outcasts.”
“I tell clients to be subversive…”
